Exciting gully skiing

Andreas Bjorklund from Alpine Experience did it again! Though only a few cm of snow fell on Friday he managed to find some gullies where the snow piled up and led his group to some amazing skiing (photo above). The weather yesterday and today was superb; sunny and warm – almost spring-like. Because it has been so hot, southern exposures are starting to transform to ‘spring snow’.so those in the know should find some early ‘spring skiing’ tomorrow.
The latest forecast has changed from ‘light snow’ to ‘moderate to heavy’ snow to arrive on Tuesday & Wednesday. So it could be interesting to read my post on Wednesday or Thursday! The ‘Ski Tip’ for skiing ‘spring snow’ is to ‘follow the sun’ and ski the steep eastern slopes first, then the southern ones, then the western ones. In the spring you would then ski the northern slopes but at this time of the year those slopes won’t transform – on the higher elevations they will still be powdery. So with a good guide here in Val/Tignes you can ski ‘spring snow’ and powder on the same day!
