More of the same!!
My previous Postcard said that conditions here were ‘Magnifique’. Well, nothing has changed; the weather and snow conditions are more of the same! It is an amazing January as one would normally expect very cold temperatures but that is not the case this year. The temperatures during the day have hovered just about 0°C (32°F) in town and at mid mountain. It has been slightly colder higher up. The only times it has felt cold was when the wind was blowing which was the case yesterday (but not today, which was ‘heavenly’!). The last time it snowed was Dec 26th and ever since we have had blue skies. Unlike spring weather which melts the snow during the daytime and freezes it at night making for icy conditions on many runs in the morning the weather we are having doesn’t do that so the snow on all the runs has remained powdery all day making for easy, very enjoyable skiing. To the ‘powderhounds’ dismay, with the exception of a few flakes possibly falling Thursday or Friday night, there are no snowstorms approaching in the near future; at least for the next 9 days which is as far as my forecasts show. So, to repeat myself from my previous Postcard, “if you are able, come to Val for some great skiing!” AND, to add to the greatness, there are not many people in town so you can ski uncrowded runs any time of the day. January is always a good time to come for that reason.
I’ve posted a photo that show how covered all the mountains are and how pretty the scenery is here. One is of Solaise looking across from Bellevarde towards Le Fornet (that’s the ‘Signal’ Mtn in the distance), the other is looking across the Bellevarde runs towards the Grand Motte (the highest one in the distance) and the surrounding mountains. These are sights I never tire of and I’d love for you to see them live; the next best thing is for me to share them with you in photos.
