Postcard from Tignes
So here is the ‘Postcard from Tignes’ that I mentioned in my last post would likely happen, I skied my final day of the season yesterday in Tignes and what a day it was! It had snowed on & off from Monday thru Wednesday and snowed hard all of Thursday May 4th, turning the town white again. We woke on Friday May 5th to a blazing blue sky and cool temperatures so four of us drove over to Tignes where the funicular up to the glacier was running, as were the upper chair and the cable car to the summit. When we got there the huge parking lot was practically full but once we got on the slopes, with so much powder about and room to ski, it wasn’t crowded. Just about everyone up there was a good powder skier and they dispersed to make their own fresh tracks so we had plenty of room to cut our own signatures in the off-piste powder. The photo above is of me and Jane Griffiths who owns the art gallery in Val. I kept hearing screams of joy behind me emanating from Jane’s mouth as she was enjoying herself so much. She said that she had her best powder skiing day of the season – on May 5th!! To top off the day we skied back to Tignes on the Genepy run which was perfect ‘spring snow’ from top to bottom. What a way to end the season!
So that’s it for this year concerning skiing but I will post from time to time more ‘Postcards from Val’ when the summer season begins keeping you abreast of what is happening here. I wish all of you a wonderful summer and Autumn and look forward to seeing many of you next season in Val.
