Hi everyone. Welcome back to my weekly ‘Postcard from Val’.
The ski season is fast approaching and Val is finally looking like a ski resort! Up until a couple of weeks ago the town and hills were brown and bereft of snow. But all that has changed thanks to a major dump that turned everything white (over a metre (3.3′) fell on the Grande Motte). So now everyone is smiling as the piste machines are packing the slopes and Val is gearing up for its’ opening on 25 November.
The skiing should be terrific as there is already 20cm (8”) on the lower slopes and 45cm (18”) on the glacier and the temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing so Val will have the snow cannons roaring. There are some amazing very inexpensive deals being offered on the opening weekend that include 2 nights stay in a hotel, 2 day Val ski pass, 1 free entry to the aqua-leisure centre and ½ day free ski guiding with a ski instructor. The same benefits are being offered for self catering in an apt. You can check out the prices on the Valdisere.com website. AND, you can leave your skis and boards at home!! as you’ll be able to test out new 2018 equipment from the many ski companies that will participating in the ‘Ski Force Winter Tour’ who will be in the resort offering all the new ski and boards for free testing.
Knowing how good the skiing often is on the opening weekend and how uncrowded the slopes and with the deals on offer that weekend is too good to miss. Photo above was taken on 14 Nov on Bellevarde by RadioVal (www.radiovaldisere.com) who not only plays terrific music 24/7 but also presents daily updates on the happening in Val. Worth tuning in!
