The skilift ‘3000’ will be up and running again this winter!
Happily for those living in Val but sadly for the skiers who plan to visit Val in December all that lovely white snow that was in the photo I posted last week has disappeared. The weather warmed up and melted it all! So yes, the locals have been able to enjoy a few more days of warmth and sunshine before winter weather sets in and the real snowfalls begin. Though it is still warm this week, there is no need to fret as those of us who have lived in Val for many decades know, more snow always falls before Val opens and skiing should be just fine at the end of November.
And, all who have been skiing in Val for years should remember the ‘3000’ skilift on Solaise that was on a short, very steep black run and gave access to very good, steep ‘off-piste’ skiing as well as access to the ‘tunnel’ leading to Fornet and the Pisallaise glacier. When I first skied in Val that was the only way to access Fornet as the telepherique wasn’t built. Because the Fornet side of the tunnel was so steep, only true experts could safely ski the slope and thus had all of Fornet to themselves! Imagine how wonderful that was. The lift was constructed in 1975 and stopped running in 2012. So for the past 6 years the only way to ski the 3000 run was to ‘skin’ up. Well, that is about to change; Val is in the process of putting in a replacement lift that they expect to have ready when the season begins. They are using the Tignes skilift that used to run alongside the Tufs chair (see photo above) which was removed last season. What a clever recycling move!! Now if only they could find a modern replacement for the ‘Mont Blanc’ chairlift!!Tweet
