Stem Turns

The Stem turn is a very useful maneuver that’s performed at slow speeds that can help you turn in very tricky and difficult snow conditions, especially in heavy & wet snow, breakable crust and windblown ridges. As it enables you to turn with a minimum of down-up-down movements you can use it to turn on fragile spring snow surfaces. The key to the stem turn is to shift your weight gently from ski to ski.
